Crested & Gargoyle Gecko Care Sheet
Like many other reptiles, these two types of geckos like to be housed alone. a couple of females can be housed together if the enclosure is large enough. If you plan on having a male and female in the same enclosure - they will produce eggs. We keep a small container with packed sand or moist dirt in our enclosures. We cut a small hole in the lid just big enough for the female to fit in - and she lays her eggs in this. Both of these geckos are arboreal, so their enclosure should be something like a 40 gallon tall with a screen top. We have many branches and vines (plastic and silk work fine) hanging in their enclosure for them to hide around. (You can ask your local petstore about cage options.) Generally cresteds and gargoyles don't need any additional heat in their enclosures, but a good temperature is between 70-80of. We do recommend a low wattage heat source if you keep your house cooler than 70. We also recommend a full spectrum light source during the day - this will help your gecko stay healthy and absorb vitamins & minerals. Geckos should be fed daily - we use Repashy Gecko Diet. Geckos primarily eat nectar from various flowers in their natural habitat, so vitamin dusted crickets can be used as an occasional treat. Make sure you keep the food and water fresh - moldy food can be dangerous to their health. We keep a fresh water dish in their enclosures at all times. We assume our geckos like to be misted occasionally - so they drink the water off the plants and glass sides of the tank.
